Die vorliegende Medaille soll auf Veranlassung des Grafen von Zinzendorf, des Stifters der Herrnhuter Gemeinde, geprägt worden sein. Der Dukat war als Persiflage auf die Freimaurerei gedacht und wird deshalb auch als Spottdukat bezeichnet.
